Get inspired to take home a turkey this year during spring gobbler season as New Hampshire Hunting Guide John Asseng presents his version of “Turkey Hunting 101” on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at 7 p.m. at the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, 11 Hazen Drive, Concord, N.H. Admission is free; no preregistration is required.
Asseng will introduce the time-honored tradition of spring turkey hunting in New Hampshire. His talk will focus on beginning turkey hunters. Asseng will go over the hunting gear you’ll need, including basic calls that will help you take your first bird, plus turkey identification and more. This talk is a must for first-time turkey hunters!
New Hampshire’s spring gobbler season runs from May 3-31. The action gets started with the New Hampshire Youth Turkey Hunt weekend on April 27-28.
Note for new hunters: New Hampshire’s Apprentice Hunting License allows you to hunt under the guidance of an experienced hunter age 18 or older without having to take a Hunter Education course. Learn more at http://www.huntnh.com/Hunting/apprentice.html.
The turkey hunting talk is part of N.H. Fish and Game’s spring series of free outdoor adventure talks being offered this spring on Wednesday evenings through May 8, 2013. This year, Fish and Game is offering a new lineup of talks on a wide range of outdoor topics, including restoring trout habitat, selecting a canoe or kayak, and conserving bats, butterflies, turtles and snakes.
