Emergency Proclamation Closes Portion Of Maine Hunting

WHEREAS, police are seeking a fugitive in connection with the shooting death of a Somerset County Deputy; and

WHEREAS, the fugitive is considered armed, extremely dangerous, and remains at large; and

WHEREAS, these conditions endanger public safety and a create a civil emergency pursuant to 37-B M.R.S.A. 742 in portions of Norridgewock, Skowhegan and Fairfield; and

WHEREAS, Youth Wild Turkey Hunting Day is Saturday, April 28, 2018 and Regular Turkey Hunting Season begins Monday, April 30, 2018,

NOW THEREFORE, I, Paul R. LePage, Governor of the State of Maine, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of Maine, find that these conditions constitute a civil emergency under 37-B M.R.S.A. 742, and for the purpose of protecting public safety, do hereby close the herein referenced area to all hunting until further notice.

Pursuant to this declaration, I hereby order the following: 1. Hunting is hereby prohibited in the following area of Somerset County, as referenced in the attached map and described as follows, until further notice:

Area bordered east by:
Back Road
State Route 104 – Middle Road
Davis Road

Area bordered south by:
Davis Road
Martin Stream Road to Horn Hill Rd/Martin Stream

Area bordered west by:
East Pond Road
State Route 8 – Village Road/Smithfield Road/Mechanic Street

Area bordered north by: Waterville Road to Burrill Hill Road
Burrill Hill Road
Bigelow Hill Road
