Feral goats control permits on Kauai

The Department of Land and Natural Resources’ (DLNR) Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) announces an opportunity for interested individuals to assist the division in an animal control of feral goats in Hunting Unit F on Kauai, pursuant to Title 13, Chapter 123, “Rules Regulating Game Mammal Hunting,” §13-123-9, “Nuisance or crop damage.” Animal control is being limited to archery use due to safety concerns. Interested individuals will need to show a valid hunting license and will be required to sign an animal control permit. Animal control permits will be available at the Lihue DOFAW office at 3060 Eiwa St., Rm. 306, Lihue, HI 96766.

Archery Only Period

Public archery only participation in the control of feral goats will proceed from July 20through Dec. 29, 2013, on weekends and state holidays. The limit will be two feral goats (either sex) per hunter per day. Animals may be de-boned in the field. Blaze orange will not be required for the archery only season. The ongoing pig hunting season will continue as scheduled.

Limits are set to maximize public opportunities to participate in this control action. There is no limit on the number of times a person can participate. Access to Unit F is permitted through Waimea Valley. Participants will be required to check in and out at the Waimea Valley, Waimea Heights, Mango tree, or Kokee hunter check stations.
