RAPID CITY, S.D. – South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (GFP), in conjunction with South Dakota State University, is tagging walleyes in Angostura, Belle Fourche and Shadehill reservoirs this April.
The project aims to estimate population size, mortality and exploitation of walleye populations in these important fisheries, as well as evaluate the current fishing regulations on these waters.
Similar to recent projects on Oahe and Sharpe reservoirs, walleye will be tagged with jaw tags. Anglers are asked to report tagged walleye either online at tags.sd.gov or by calling 605.223.7656.
Anglers catching a tagged walleye do not have to harvest the fish or remove the tag. Simply record the number and report it. A number of the tags will be worth $100 dollars.
