DNR Reminds Hunters of Online Deer Hunting Survey
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources reminds deer hunters that they can help wildlife officials evaluate deer hunting seasons by participating in an online survey. The survey allows all hunters an opportunity to report their results, including where and when they hunted over the course of the seasons.
“We use the information as part of our models to assess deer populations and develop antlerless quotas,” said DNR wildlife biologist Brian Frawley.
Hunters are asked to wait until they’ve finished hunting deer for the 2009 seasons before they complete the survey.
Initiated during the 2006 seasons, the online survey not only collects hard data but also asks hunters for their impressions about the deer herd and their satisfaction level with deer hunting.
“This year, we’re collecting additional information to assess the antler restrictions in the Upper Peninsula and asking hunters questions about opening date of the firearm deer season,” Frawley said.
To participate, go the DNR Web site at http://www.michigan.gov/dnr, and find the Online Services box near the bottom of the front page. Hunters can then click on “Online Harvest Reporting Option,” and then “Deer Harvest Reporting Form.”
Hunters can see the results of previous surveys on the Web site as well.
