LDWF Reduces Spending On Aquatic Plant Control Program
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) will reduce spending allocated state general fund dollars for the 2009-10 fiscal year by scaling back planned expenditures in the agency’s Aquatic Plant Control Program. LDWF cuts will total $7,561 for the remainder of the fiscal year, as part of the mid-year, across the board 7.56 percent general fund reductions to all agencies.
A line item appropriation of $100,000 for aquatic plant control represents the only general fund spending in the LDWF budget which is supported mainly by license sales, federal grants and mineral revenues from LDWF-owned properties.
Following last week’s budget forecast by the Revenue Estimating Conference (REC), Gov. Jindal stated that he will not raise taxes on the Louisiana people to address the mid-year deficit, and instead, would force state government to tighten its belt to find savings and protect Louisiana’s economy. The Governor reinforced the need to make the size of government more sustainable in the long term by identifying recurring savings that will also help address future budget challenges in FY11 and FY12.
