Man Injured During Duck Hunting Mishap

The Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) are investigating a hunting mishap involving Mallory R. Warner, 58 of Flintstone, Md.

Officers were dispatched to the Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, Md. on December 30 to investigate a self-inflicted gunshot wound suffered by Warner while duck hunting. Officers learned that the incident occurred the previous day at the E.A. Vaughn Wildlife Management Area. Warner told investigators he had leaned his shotgun against some brush in order to retrieve a duck when the gun fell over and fired, causing shot pellets to strike his left elbow.

NRP would like to remind hunters to observe the rules of gun safety and unload their firearms before they set their gun down for any reason.

Warner was treated for minor injuries and released from the hospital the same day. No charges are expected to be filed.
