Texas Prairie And Lakes Region Fishing Reports October 5

ATHENS Water clear, 78-82 degrees. Black bass are good on black/blue jigs and plastic worms around man-made brush piles close to docks. Crappie are fair on 1/16oz. jigs in 18-24 feet around heavy brush. Catfish are good on prepared baits fished over baited holes in 12-15 feet.

BASTROP Water clear. Black bass are good on live minnows. Crappie are very good on minnows and pink tube jigs. Channel and blue catfish are fair on bait shrimp and stinkbait. Yellow catfish are slow.

BELTON Water murky; 85 degrees; 15.20′ high. Black bass are good on topwaters at night. Hybrid striper are good on white Riversides and Sassy Shad at night under lights. White bass are good on white Riversides and silver/green Sassy Shad at night under lights in 15 feet. Crappie are slow. Channel and blue catfish are good on throw lines baited with frozen shad in 20 – 30 feet. Yellow catfish are good on trotlines baited with live perch.

BRIDGEPORT Water clear; 78-83 degrees; 0.97′ low. Black bass are fair on Texas rigged worms and shad pattern medium running crankbaits. Crappie are fair on jigs in 18-20 feet around heavy brush. White bass are good on slabs and live shad in 15-20 feet. Hybrid striper are fair on live bait. Channel catfish are good on cut bait and worms in 15-20 feet in holes baited with soured grain.

CEDAR CREEK Water lightly stained; 78-82 degrees; 0.43′ low. Black bass are fair on spinnerbaits over grass beds in 8-12 feet. White bass are good on chrome jigging spoons and white slabs on main lake humps. Hybrid striper are fair on 4″ glow Sassy Shad under the birds. Crappie are good on tube jigs in 20-25 feet around heavy man made brush piles. Catfish are fair drift fishing with cut shad.

COOPER Water stained; 78-83 degrees; 0.08′ low. No report available.

FAIRFIELD Water fairly clear; 79-89 degrees. Black bass are good on Texas rigged worms fished around mid-lake points. Crappie are slow. Catfish are excellent on fresh shad and shrimp in 12-18 feet drifted on mid to lower lake points and the hot water discharge. Redfish are fair on large Rat-L-Traps and Sassy Shad.

FAYETTE Water gin clear; 93 degrees. Black bass are good on shad patterned Pop-R’s and Spittin’ Images early. Red ear perch are good on worms in 2 – 5 feet. Channel and blue catfish are slow.

GIBBONS CREEK Water clear. Black bass are fair on watermelon soft plastics, spinnerbaits, and crankbaits. Crappie are fair on minnows and white tube jigs. Catfish are good on stinkbait, shrimp, and liver.

GRANBURY Water clear; 0.42′ low. Black bass are very good on shad colored spinnerbaits and crankbaits, and on topwaters early and late. Striped bass are fair on silver striper jigs. White bass are fair on minnows, hellbenders, and silver spoons. Crappie are fair on minnows. Catfish are good on stinkbait, liver, and nightcrawlers.

GRAPEVINE Water stained; 78-84 degrees; 3.01′ high. Black bass are fair on Texas rigged soft plastic, spinnerbaits and firetiger crankbaits. Crappie are fair on minnows in 20-24 feet around marinas and docks with brush. White bass are good on slabs around humps and points. Catfish are good on punchbait and fresh shad in 5-20 feet.

JOE POOL Water fairly clear; 77-83 degrees; 0.17′ high. Black bass are fair in 8-15 feet on jigs and drop shot rigs around submerged creek ledges. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs around Corps of Engineers brush piles and bridge columns in 12-20 feet. White bass are good on chrome or white around main lake points and humps. Channel catfish are good drift fishing fresh shad and prepared baits around points and humps in 10-20 feet.

LAVON Water stained; 78-83 degrees; 1.85′ low. Black bass are fair on red Rat-L-Traps, spinnerbaits, and jerk baits. Crappie are fair on live minnows and jigs. Catfish are fair to good on cut bait and Catfish Charlie.

LEWISVILLE Water stained; 78-84 degrees; 0.57′ high. Black bass are fair on jigs in 10-12 feet around docks with brush. Crappie are fair to good on minnows and black/chartreuse jigs in 15-30 feet around boathouses and bridge columns. White bass are good on jigging spoons in 20-24 feet around main lake points and humps. Catfish are good on cut bait on main lake points and humps in 12-25 feet.

NAVARRO MILLS Water murky; 83 degrees; 0.21′ low. Black bass are good but small on minnows. White bass are slow. Crappie are good on minnows and blue tube jigs. Channel and blue catfish are good on minnows and shrimp. Yellow catfish are slow.

PALESTINE Water fairly clear; 78-83 degrees; 0.68′ low. Black bass are good on jigs and trick worms in 8-12 feet. Crappie fair on minnows and chartreuse/black jigs in 15-20 feet around standing timber and heavy submerged brush. Catfish are good on fresh cut bait along channels in 20-24 feet. White bass are fair on Road Runners along the river channel in the upper end of the lake. Hybrid striper are slow.

PROCTOR Water stained; 83 degrees; 0.77′ high. Black bass are slow. Striped bass are good on crankbaits and shad. White bass are good on minnows. Crappie are slow. Channel and blue catfish are good on goldfish and minnows. Yellow catfish are slow.

RAY HUBBARD Water fairly clear; 77-82 degrees; 0.2′ low. Black bass are fair on Texas and Carolina rigged worms, drop shot rigs and jigs. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs 12-15 feet. White bass are good on slabs. Hybrid striper are fair on slabs. Catfish are fair on fresh shad and prepared baits in 24-28 feet.

RAY ROBERTS Water murky; 78-83 degrees; 1.2′ high. Black bass are good on Booyah spinnerbaits and Yum Dingers. White bass are fair to good on CC jigging spoons. Crappie are good on jigs and minnows over brush piles. No reports on catfish.

RICHLAND CHAMBERS Water fairly clear; 78-83 degrees; 0.34′ low. Black bass are slow to fair on Rat-L-Traps, Texas rigs and jigs. White bass are good on white or chartreuse slabs fished close to the bottom in 20-24 feet. Crappie are slow on minnows in 20-30 feet around heavy brush and timber. Catfish are good drift fishing with fresh shad in 15-20 feet around the 309 Flats.

SOMERVILLE Water murky; 0.23′ low. Black bass are excellent on black or purple soft plastics. Hybrid striper are slow. White bass are slow. Crappie are slow. Channel and blue catfish are good on minnows. Yellow catfish are slow.

STILLHOUSE Water stained; 84 degrees; 4.39′ high. Black bass are good on spinnerbaits and nightcrawlers. White bass are slow. Crappie are good on minnows. Channel and blue catfish are excellent on shrimp, nightcrawlers, and minnows. Yellow catfish are slow.

TAWAKONI Water stained; 78-82 degrees. Black bass are fair on jigs and creature-type baits fished in 3 to 7 feet. Crappie are good on live minnows jigs in 12-18 feet. White bass are fair to good on white or chartreuse slabs fished close to the bottom. Striped bass and hybrid striper are fair on slabs and live shad. Catfish are good on fresh shad and prepared baits in 15-20 feet around points close to the mouth of creeks.

TEXOMA Water clear; 77-82 degrees. Black bass are fair on jigs and soft plastics fished around boat docks. Crappie are fair on minnows around boathouses in 20-30 feet. Striped bass are good on live shad, Sassy Shad and slabs in 20-40 feet. Blue catfish are excellent on cut bait and live shad along the submerged river ledges and adjacent flats.

WEATHERFORD Water stained; 78-84 degrees. Black bass are fair on finesse worms in shad colors, jerk baits and spinnerbaits around docks and on rocky point. Crappie are fair to good in the crappie house and boat slips. Channel catfish are fair on worms and dough bait. White bass are slow. Bream are fair on worms.

WHITNEY Water murky; 2.64′ low. Black bass are good on yellow/white spinnerbaits and crankbaits, and on topwaters early. Striped bass are fair on live minnows and chartreuse striper jigs. White bass are fair on minnows and pet spoons. Crappie are very good on minnows and blue tube jigs. Catfish are fair on frozen shrimp, liver, and live bait.
