More Info Sought On Grizzly Poaching
State and federal officials are seeking more information on the illegal shooting of a large grizzly bear near Swift Dam Road west of Dupuyer.
“We had a tip and we’d like that person to call us back or anyone else who has information about this grizzly,” says Kqyn Kuka, Fish, Wildlife and Parks game warden.
The carcass of the bear – one of Montana’s largest – was discovered Aug. 12. It had been dead for about one month.
A substantial reward is being offered, state officials say, in excess of $1,000, for information leading to the arrest of the person, or persons, involved the shooting of the grizzly.
The bear was originally captured in 2007 as part of a population study. At the time he stood 7 and a half feet tall and weighed 765 pounds. When killed, the bear probably weighed more than 800 pounds.
Anyone with information on the bear’s death should call 406-223-3873 (U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service) or Kuka at 750-3574, or 1-800-TIP-MONT.
