Georgia Regional NASP Tournaments

Over the next month, more than 50 archery teams and close to 1,000 students in grades 4-12 will compete at one of five 2012 National Archery in the Schools Program-GA Regional Tournaments.

The regional sites and tournament dates are:

● Jan. 28 – Regional 1, Loganville High School, Loganville, GA

● Jan. 30 – Regional 2, Peach County High School, Fort Valley, GA

● Feb. 4 – Regional 3, Lee County Elementary School, Leesburg, GA

Pennsylvania NASP Championship

Pennsylvania Game Commission officials are encouraging all schools participating in the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) to register for Pennsylvania’s 2012 NASP State Tournament, which will be held on Friday, March 9, at the Penn State Multi-Sport Facility in University Park, Centre County.

While there is no fee to register, registration opens on Friday, Jan. 27, and closes on Friday, Feb. 17. Registration can be done through the NASP link in the “Education” tab of on the Game Commission’s homepage (www.pgc.state.pa.us), or directly through the NASP Tournament website.

NASP helps school districts in Pennsylvania meet physical education curriculum requirements of the state Department of Education, while at the same time introducing them to the world of competitive archery.

Hartland Female Archer Wins World Archery Tournament

Emily Bee wins NASP

Michigan student Emily Bee recently honored for taking the world championship in the female division in the National Archery in the Schools World Competition.

In October, 1,071 kids from around the world arrived at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports Complex to compete in the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) World Tournament. The three-day competition included students in grades 4 thru 12 from 28 states, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa.

Michigan student Emily Bee, a Hartland High School sophomore, emerged from the tournament a world champion archer. Bee scored 292 out of a possible 300 points earning first place in the female division and a NASP World Tournament title.

“When my name was called, I couldn’t believe it, I’m still in shock that I’m first in the world,” Bee said. Bee won more than $4,000 in scholarships, two new bows and a target, among other honors. Hartland also did well as a team, finishing fourth overall and only 15 points from first place.

Grants Awarded Through South Dakota Archery Program

A dozen lucky South Dakota schools have hit the “bulls-eye” in obtaining grants from funding procured by the state Game, Fish and Parks Department.

Grants totaling $12,000 are being shared by 12 schools to purchase of archery equipment for participation in the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP). The grants, accompanied by additional funding from GFP, will allow the schools to receive their archery equipment free of charge.

Schools receiving the funds include Red Shirt School, Saint Francis Indian School, Little Wound elementary and middle schools, American Horse, Red Cloud elementary and high schools, Eagle Butte elementary and high schools, McIntosh, Norris and Porcupine.
