A couple anglers fished Kiwanis. They caught 2 bass and quite a few 14- to 16-inch trout. They used a banjo minnow for one bass and a Texas-rigged dark colored lizard enticed the other bass and trout.

Trout were stocked last week and will be stocked one more time during the week of March 8. The week of March 15th , Game and Fish will stock sunfish to give a boost to the Program pond and lake populations. The following week (March 22 – 27) we will stock catfish in all but the Payson Program waters.

Fishing for trout is good to excellent at most Urban Fishing Program waters. Anglers using scented dough baits (such as Power Bait), worms fished under a bobber, corn on the bottom, or small trout lures have been successful.

The ice on inland lakes around the state is holding however anglers are reminded to still use caution. Stay away from areas that are known to have a current or run-off from melting snow. Shoreline ice will deteriorate quickly with temperatures up near 40 degrees. Lakes with snow cover may present travel problems due to slush. Permanent ice shanties in the southern portions of the Lower Peninsula should have been removed from the ice on March 1st.

Southeast Lower Peninsula

Lake Erie – Has no safe ice to report. Boat anglers are now fishing off the Metro Park and the Banana Dike for perch. The Metro Park does have a couple docks in.

URBAN LAKES — Fishing for trout continues to be good to excellent at most Urban Fishing Program waters. Winter storms have invigorated the trout and anglers willing to brave the weather are rewarded with good action and little competition. Anglers using scented dough baits (such as PowerBait), worms fished under a bobber, corn on the bottom, or small trout lures have been successful. Best times to fish for trout generally are early morning, but some anglers have reported excellent fishing late afternoon. Small spinners such as Rooster Tails and Panther Martins, or spoons such as Super Dupers are also working well for trout, especially during periods just before and after storms. Lake waters at Green Valley (Payson) and Lakeside (Tucson) are brown colored and murky due to the high runoff from recent storms—making fishing tough. Lakeside Lake will not be stocked for another two weeks, so anglers are advised to try Kennedy, Silverbell or Sahuarita Lakes that are each getting some of the extra fish. Trout continue to be stocked at Green Valley Lakes, but until the water clears up a bit more, the fishing is expected to remain slow.
