Fishing Basics Classics At Pequest

Fishing is fun and a great way to enjoy the outdoors with family or friends. If you’re not sure where to start- this is your opportunity! The NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife is offering FREE 2.5 hour classes this summer at the Pequest Trout Hatchery on four days during the week. The class covers basic equipment, skills and safety tips and includes a trout fishing experience in our well-stocked pond.

Consider planning one of these dates into the vacation schedule. Bring the family or a friend and learn all you need to know to make fishing something you can enjoy for many years to come. If you are an angler who already knows the joy of fishing, pass the word about the classes to someone you know who may be intereseted in learning how to get started.

Wildlife Expo 2008 Set For PJC Milton Campus August 23

If you enjoy hunting or freshwater fishing and you live within driving distance of Milton, you’ll want to mark down Aug. 23 on your calendar.

Wildlife Expo 2008 will at the Pensacola Junior College Milton campus that day and will run from 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. There’ll be six sessions offered during the day, and participants will have their pick of attending one of three seminars offered during each session.

The sponsors of the event are the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Services (IFAS), Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Alabama Department of Conservation, Buckmasters, National Wild Turkey Federation, National Rifle Association, Ducks Unlimited and other organizations.

Dove Hunt In Mississippi County To Accommodate Mobility Impaired

EAST PRAIRIE, Mo.- Missourians who want to hunt doves but hesitate because of mobility impairments can put aside their reservations and pick up their shotguns. The Conservation Department and the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) are sponsoring a special event for disabled hunters Sept. 7 at Ten Mile Pond Conservation Area in Mississippi County.

NWTF Regional Representative Larry Neal said the event draws participants from all over the state. Typically scheduled on the first weekend of dove season, the hunt provides fast shooting for participants. Up to 15 hunters can participate. The area is reserved for their exclusive use in the morning-only hunt.

Members of the NWTF Bayou Strutters Chapter serve as guides, helping hunters get to and from the field and retrieving downed birds. Guides, food and drinks are provided at no charge for hunters. The NWTF also provides steel shot shells, since non-toxic shot is required for hunting with shotguns at Ten Mile Pond CA. Participating hunters are enrolled as members in the NWTF’s Wheelin’ Sportsmen Program.

23rd Annual Wildlife Art Show Set For August 1-3

The Pennsylvania Game Commission’s Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area visitor center will feature hundreds of original paintings and fine-art prints from some of the best-known wildlife artists in the state during its annual Wildlife Art Show from Aug. 1-3. The show is free, and the hours are: Friday, 1-6 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.; and Sunday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

In addition to the artists’ sales, the show will offer tickets for $2 each or three for $5 to win a selection of artwork in a drawing that will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 3. Proceeds from the drawing will benefit The Wildlands Preservation Fund land acquisition program.

Lincoln Grizzly Bear Mount on Display

The mount of an 830-pound male grizzly bear struck and killed by a pickup truck near Lincoln last fall will be on display at the Hooper Park Pavilion in Lincoln on Saturday, July 5 from 9am-5pm as part of a living in bear country display.

The bear hide was displayed for the first time June 26-28 at Lincoln Community Hall while taxidermists worked on the mount, but Saturday’s event will be the first showing of the full, finished mount.

Other Saturday activities include a bear aware trailer with full-body mounts of black and grizzly bears; a display of wildlife skulls, hides, and track casts; information about bear identification, safety and bear management; and more information on the history of the Lincoln grizzly.
