Registration Open Now For Free Conservation Day Camp On May 15

Children ages 8 to 14 are invited to learn more about our natural resources and the outdoor activities our state has to offer when the Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife hosts its annual Camp Awareness from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 15 at the Redden State Forest Headquarters Tract near Georgetown.

Planned activity stations will include: boating safety; wetlands, waterfowl, wildlife and habitat; target archery; air rifles; building a bird nesting box and pine cone/peanut butter bird feeders; and the Hooked on Fishing Not Drugs program. Each activity will begin hourly, running throughout the day, with rotation beginning at 9 a.m. All activities will conclude at 1 p.m.

Turkey Hunting Weekend Workshop for Women

Are you a woman interested in learning how to hunt wild turkeys? Get set for the spring gobbler season by signing up for a new “Beyond Becoming an Outdoors-Woman” (Beyond BOW) Turkey Hunting Workshop on April 23 – 25, 2010 (Friday-Sunday) at the Woodbound Inn in Rindge, N.H.

Sign up now using the registration form posted at http://www.nhbow.com. The class is limited to 14 participants. Registration is first-come, first-served. Deadline for sign-ups is March 24, 2010. Cost of $295 includes instruction, materials, use of equipment, all meals and two nights lodging at the charming Woodbound Inn & Resort, nestled in Rindge, N.H., on the shores of Lake Contoocook in the heart of the Monadnock region.

Many Hunter and Bowhunter Education Classes Offered in April

Don’t miss opening day of your favorite hunting season because you didn’t get the Hunter Education certification class you needed. Now is the time to register online for Hunter and Bowhunter Education classes so you can get your license and head for the woods!

New hunters must take a hunter education course before they can purchase their first hunting license in N.H. (those age 16 and older need a license to hunt). To meet this requirement, the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department offers Hunter and Bowhunter Education classes around the state, as well as Trapper Education. Below is a list of classes that start in April.

Special Reptiles Of Concern Season Training For Hunters

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) Chairman Rodney Barreto will announce a special season for the capture and removal of reptiles of concern, including Burmese pythons, from state-managed lands. Representatives from the National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Big Cypress National Preserve, South Florida Water Management District and Army Corps of Engineers are scheduled to attend the event.

Following the chairman’s remarks, approximately 30 hunters will receive training on how to identify, stalk, capture and remove reptiles of concern. The FWC and experts from the reptile industry will provide the training, which includes lessons in biology and behavior. Wild and tame pythons will be used in the instruction. A local tanner will explain the value of harvested hides. The training period will end with the instructors leading teams of hunters onto the levee to practice their skills.
