On Monday, June 23, the South Bend Common Council is scheduled to consider a proposal to ban the possession and carrying of firearms on all city-owned property, even by Right-to-Carry permit holders. While details of the proposal are not currently available, it is clear that from prior committee discussion, the full Council will consider a measure that will restrict the rights of law-abiding gun owners and render them defenseless against criminal attack.

Just last year, Governor Mitch Daniels (R) issued an Executive Order allowing law-abiding gun owners to possess and carry firearms in State Parks. It contained specific protections NRA considers paramount to preserving our hunting heritage for future generations.

North Carolinas Lincoln County Board Rejects Discharge Ban

February 24th, 2008 NewsEngine Posted in Popular Outdoors No Comments »

Thanks to the efforts of pro-Second Amendment citizens, the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners has soundly rejected the proposed ordinance that sought to restrict the discharge of firearms. As we reported last week, this proposal would have prohibited the discharge of firearms within 500 feet of a dwelling or other building or structure that is “designed to be occupied by human beings.”

NRA members and other pro-gun citizens responded to the call to action to oppose this measure by contacting the Commissioners, and by attending the meeting of the Board this past Monday to voice their concerns. The commission voted 4-1 to reject the ordinance.

Russ MacDonald, Incident Commander, on the Sleeper Lake Fire, the third largest fire recorded in Michigan’s history, advises that this fire is 95% contained. Two relatively small areas of concern remain, one on the southwest and one on the northwest side of the fire, where crews are continuing mop-up operations. Paul Gaberdiel, Area Fire Supervisor Newberry Field Office, reports that there are already signs of Mother Nature healing herself. Paul reports seeing various wildlife in the fire area, including seven Sharptail Grouse, and that charred areas in the marshes are already greening up.
