One of the nation’s largest anti-hunting groups, Defenders of Wildlife, have taken aim at Cabela’s Inc. with a misguided and misleading public relations campaign designed to raise money to fund its efforts against outdoor sports.

According to an action alert posted by Defenders, the group accused Cabela’s of sponsoring three so-called “wolf-killing competitions” in Idaho. The group also attacked Cabela’s for the decision by the local paper in Sidney, Nebraska to not run an inflammatory ad against Cabela’s that Defenders had produced. It then went on to solicit funds to run the ad in other papers throughout the state.

A leading anti-hunting organization is preparing a nationwide petition urging the U.S. Secretary of the Interior to place the Northern Rocky Mountain wolf population back on the Endangered Species List. This while research indicates increasing wolf numbers in the region may be playing a large role in the decline of elk population.

Great Britian Bans PETA Poster

The British agency that oversees advertising standards in Great Britain recently halted PETA’s “Meat Kills” advertisements for being deceptive.

The Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) found that a poster promoted by PETA was misleading when implying that eating meat would cause swine flu. Apparently, the poster used phrases like “meat kills” and “go vegetarian” and superimposed them over the names of numerous deadly diseases including swine flu or H1NI.

Though the British wing of PETA later stated that its intent was only to get people to consider the results of livestock production, the ASA noted that only two of the four diseases mentioned on the poster were verified as being related to the consumption of meat. The ASA indicated that it considered the advertisement “ambiguous” and banned it from being used.

PETA’s Billboard Receives Wrath From The Obesity Action Center

The country’s most outrageous animal rights group’s latest, tasteless attempt to steal a few headlines using whales certainly didn’t disappoint even though it ended up “high and dry”.

PETA recently launched an ad campaign promoting vegetarianism in Jacksonville, Florida. Controversially, the ad was placed on a huge billboard showing an illustrated version of an obese woman stating: “Save the whales” and “Lose the blubber. Go vegetarian.”

Of course, there aren’t any whales on the billboard, making it obvious who PETA was calling a “whale.” Numerous groups spoke out about the ad and accused them of being insensitive. The Obesity Action Center (OAC) even sent out a press release calling on PETA to remove the billboard and stated, “The OAC believes this campaign is completely inappropriate as no individual should be stigmatized based on their size or weight.” As a result, PETA pulled down the billboard and replaced it with another, less controversial pro-vegetarian message.
