Wild-born Mexican wolf No. 1154 is scheduled to be released at an approved site in the Gila Wilderness on Sunday Jan. 10. The 1.5-year-old female wolf was captured in Arizona and temporarily has been in captivity awaiting release. The wolf has no history of livestock depredation, but was trapped because it left the boundaries of the Blue Range Wolf Recovery Area. This wolf is considered to be a good release candidate because it exhibits a fear of people, demonstrated by its behavior in captivity. If you see a flock of wild turkeys in New Hampshire this winter, the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department would like to hear about it. For the second consecutive year, citizens are being asked to report sightings of turkey flocks seen from now through March 31, 2010, by filling out a simple electronic survey form posted on the Fish and Game website at http://www.wildnh.com/turkeysurvey. You can also reach the survey by going to http://www.wildnh.com and clicking on “2010 Winter Flock Survey.” Please do not report multiple sightings of the same flock. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are offering a monetary reward for information leading to the arrest of a suspect who poached a bald eagle in Otsego County near Johannesburg, likely in the period of Dec. 20-22. DNR conservation officers in Gaylord were alerted to the eagle poaching by an area resident who discovered the bird dead near Brown Road. A preliminary examination by DNR veterinarians showed the cause of death to be a possible gunshot wound. Anyone with information regarding this case can call the DNR’s Report All Poaching hotline at 800-292-7800 or DNR Law Enforcement at the Gaylord Operations Service Center at 989-732-3541.
