The Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies and the Teaming With Wildlife steering committee honored Senators Sheldon Whitehouse (RI), and John Thune (SD), and Congressmen Mike Simpson (ID) and John Dingell (MI) on Wednesday for their outstanding leadership to advance wildlife conservation at a Congressional Reception “Celebrating America’s Wildlife” held to culminate the annual Teaming With Wildlife Fly-In. The Teaming With Wildlife Fly-In is the most important outreach event on Capitol Hill for the 6,200+ member Teaming With Wildlife Coalition to secure dedicated funding to support on-the-ground conservation action in every state and territory through State Wildlife Action Plans to prevent wildlife from becoming endangered. The 2010 Ole Mill NRA Disabled Shooting Sectional will take place at the Spadling County 4-H facility in Griffin, Georgia on Saturday, March 6. The two-day event will begin with an adaptive shooting clinic followed by relays of competition on Sunday, March 7. Winners will be honored at an awards ceremony immediately following the matches. The Old Mill Sectionals will feature competitions in precision 3-position air rifle and international air pistol. Winners in each category will be invited to Colorado Springs, Colorado for Paralympic training at the Olympic Training Center. “We are very excited about Georgia Competitive Shooters, Inc. participation in the 2010 NRA National Disabled Indoor Sectional Championships," said Disabled Shooting Manager Vanessa Warner. The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department is warning people to be cautious as they are trying to remove their bobhouses from the lakes. Following recent storms, there is more open water on many lakes and ponds, making ice conditions dangerous in some areas. People should not risk their safety to move a bobhouse in deteriorating conditions. Bobhouses are the responsibility of the owner and by law must not be left to go into the water upon ice-out. There is an April 1 deadline to remove all bobhouses from frozen bodies of water; however, owners are encouraged not to wait until then -- rather, to watch the ice conditions and remove bobhouses when prudent and in a safe manner. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has scheduled a public video workshop for March 16 to receive comments on possible rule changes for pompano and African pompano. There will be several locations around the state where you can take part in the workshop via a videoconferencing connection, or you can participate via a voice-only telephone line. The FWC is currently considering changes to Florida’s permit fishery regulations (see the related presentation at MyFWC.com/Commission under the Dec. 9-10, 2009 meeting agenda), and pompano and African pompano are managed together with permit in the same FWC rule. Consequently, there may be amendments needed to pompano and African pompano rules to go along with the possible permit rule changes, and the FWC is seeking feedback on these potential rule changes.
