Delaware Public Hearing On Wildlife Regulation Updates

The DNREC Division of Fish and Wildlife will hold a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 25 to review proposed changes to state wildlife regulations. The hearing will be held in the DNREC Richardson and Robbins Building Auditorium at 89 Kings Highway, Dover. Proposed regulatory changes under consideration to Regulation 3900 – Wildlife are as follows: Definitions – define “Quality Buck” as a buck with a minimum outside antler spread of 14 inches. Method of Take – allow crossbows to be used during all deer seasons; establish a minimum draw weight of 35 pounds for longbows; eliminate the maximum pull weight for crossbows and allow scopes on crossbows; make it unlawful to carry a crossbow in a locked position within a motor vehicle; clarify when trapping equipment may be ... Weather Continues To Create Wildfire Dangers For Missouri

Missouri has been lucky so far this winter, but the threat of wildfires could return quickly with dry, windy weather. Bill Altman, forestry field programs supervisor for the Missouri Department of Conservation, said cold, wet weather so far this year has prevented large-scale problems with forest and grass fires. However, one of the primary requirements for a bad fire season – fuel – remains abundant. “The big wind storm we had in the Ozarks in May of 2009 and the ice storm along the Arkansas line earlier that year put a lot of downed timber on the ground,” said Altman. “That added to tons of woody debris from devastating ice storms in 2008. Under the wrong set of conditions, all that fuel could create serious problems for property owners and firefighters.” Read more..

Michigan Leftover Spring Turkey Licenses On Sale March 8

The Department of Natural Resources and Environment reminds hunters that leftover spring turkey licenses go on sale to unsuccessful license applicants on Monday, March 8, at 10 a.m. Licenses will go on sale to all hunters, including those who did not participate in the application process, on March 15 at 10 a.m. Applicants can check for license drawing results at http://www.michigan.gov/dnr. Successful applicants will not be notified by postcards. "There are a large number of licenses available for many areas of the state," said Al Stewart, the DNRE's turkey specialist. "The greatest flexibility for hunters is in the Upper Peninsula, where all open areas are included in one hunt unit and licenses are good for the entire April 19 - May 31 season. Salazar Announces Sport Fishing and Boating Partnership Council

Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announced the appointments of 19 individuals to the Sport Fishing and Boating Partnership Council, an advisory panel created in 1993 to advise the Secretary on nationally significant recreational fishing, boating and aquatic resource conservation issues. The announcement was made on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. at the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation reception for members of Congress. “This council plays a vital role in exploring ways to increase boating and angling participation, particularly youth participation, while conserving our precious aquatic resources” said Salazar. “The wealth of experience and expertise offered by both returning and new council members is impressive and their efforts will most assuredly enable us to reconnect more people with boating, fishing and the natural world.” Read more..
