The ice on inland lakes around the state is holding however anglers are reminded to still use caution. Stay away from areas that are known to have a current or run-off from melting snow. Shoreline ice will deteriorate quickly with temperatures up near 40 degrees. Lakes with snow cover may present travel problems due to slush. Permanent ice shanties in the southern portions of the Lower Peninsula should have been removed from the ice on March 1st. Southeast Lower Peninsula Lake Erie - Has no safe ice to report. Boat anglers are now fishing off the Metro Park and the Banana Dike for perch. The Metro Park does have a couple docks in. Huron River - Is fishable for steelhead and walleye. Read more..

With daytime temperatures in the 40s being forecast across the state this week, snow conditions are rapidly deteriorating. Snowmobile trails are now closed in most of the southern two-thirds of the state. Trail conditions in the northern counties range from poor to a few areas still reporting excellent, on the Department of Tourism Snow Conditions Report. Most state parks and forests are reporting that cross-country ski trails are still snow-covered, but that conditions are icy early in the morning to soft and mushy by mid afternoon. With the current forecast, many parks are reporting they no longer plan to groom trails and that this may be the last weekend to get out and enjoy cross-country skiing. Let’s Go Fishing Wants You to Teach Fishing

Spring is in the air and the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department is looking for experienced anglers to volunteer as fishing instructors for the Let’s Go Fishing program, where you’ll have a chance to pass on the outdoor traditions by teaching basic and/or fly fishing skills to youth and adults. If you want to become a Let's Go Fishing instructor, the first step is to get certified by attending two required free training sessions. The first session covers the basics of Fish and Game and the Let’s Go Fishing Program’s policies and procedures, plus CPR certification. Anglers are catching increasing numbers of steelhead from rivers on the Olympic Peninsula, while others flock to the lower Columbia River for spring chinook. Dozens of lakes opened for trout fishing March 1 in eastern Washington, and a weeklong razor clam dig is tentatively scheduled later this month at various ocean beaches. For anglers and other outdoor enthusiasts, deciding among these options can present a real challenge, said Steve Thiesfeld, a fish biologist for the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW). "This is a great time of year for fishing and other outdoor activities, but deciding where to go can be tough," Thiesfeld said. "With so many opportunities out there, anglers have to make some hard choices about how they want to spend their weekends." Read more..
