Many Hunter and Bowhunter Education Classes Offered in April

Don’t miss opening day of your favorite hunting season because you didn’t get the Hunter Education certification class you needed. Now is the time to register online for Hunter and Bowhunter Education classes so you can get your license and head for the woods! New hunters must take a hunter education course before they can purchase their first hunting license in N.H. (those age 16 and older need a license to hunt). To meet this requirement, the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department offers Hunter and Bowhunter Education classes around the state, as well as Trapper Education. Daytime temperatures in the 40s and even 50s across Wisconsin this week, combined with light rainfall in many areas, took a major toll on snow conditions this week. Snow depths now range from bare ground in some areas of the south to less than a foot in the far northern counties, with much of the central part of the state having from 2 to 5 inches remaining. Snowmobile trails are now closed in most counties, with just a few far northern counties reporting trails still open but in poor condition with bars spots in some places. Most parks and forests are no longer maintaining cross-country ski trails and many properties have reopened trails to hiking. Wildlife Areas Closed During Critical Period For Wildlife

As winter slowly draws to an end and people start thinking about outdoor activities such as hiking, horseback riding and shed antler hunting, the Department of Game and Fish is reminding everyone to give wildlife a break so they can rest and give birth. Some state wildlife areas, including the Rio Chama Wildlife Area and the Humphries Wildlife Area in northern New Mexico, are closed to protect deer and elk until after they have their calves and fawns. The only exception is for hunters who draw for the special April 15-30 turkey hunt. United States to Support Trade Restrictions on Bluefin Tuna, Polar Bears

Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Fish and Wildlife and Parks Tom Strickland today said the United States will support trade restrictions on bluefin tuna, polar bears, and imperiled corals and sharks among other proposals at the meeting of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) that begins next week. “The United States will push hard to curtail international trade in species that are sliding towards extinction, including species such as bluefin tuna that are currently not regulated under the treaty,” said Strickland, who is heading the U.S. delegation to the treaty’s 15th Conference of the Parties. “At the same time, we will renew our commitment to help range countries scientifically manage and conserve species such as tigers and elephants already protected under ...
