New Mexico Fish And Game Capture And Relocate 277 Pronghorn Antelope

The Department of Game and Fish captured 277 pronghorn antelope this month on private land in northeastern New Mexico and relocated them to Mexico, Santa Ana Pueblo, a ranch near Grants, and Bureau of Land Management property near San Antonio Mountain. The trapping operation allowed the Department to augment existing herds while removing animals that had been damaging alfalfa fields on the Smith Ranch between Springer and Clayton. The pronghorns sent to Mexico were part of an exchange in which New Mexico will receive desert bighorn sheep rams to expand the gene pool in the captive herd at Red Rock Wildlife Area. Read more..

Experimental Sunfish Regulations Extended On Portion Of Mississippi River

An experimental regulation limiting anglers to 10 sunfish taken from the Mississippi River adjacent to Houston, Winona and Wabasha Counties will be extended another five years, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has announced. Continuing the special regulation, which has been in effect since 2001, was supported by 65 percent of anglers participating in a 2009 public input process. The regulation is aimed at maintaining and increasing the number of sunfish longer than seven inches in Pools 5, 5A and 8 of the Mississippi. It will remain in effect until April 1, 2015. MADISON – Time to start planning that first fishing trip for the coming inland fishing season. The 2010 Wisconsin Fishing Report is now available online and is loaded with fishing forecasts from waters across the state, helping anglers find the kind of fishing experience they most enjoy. The report is available at Department of Natural Resources service centers and regional offices, and will be inserted in the April edition of the Wisconsin Natural Resources magazine, which may be purchased online. Missouri Enters It’s Second 50 Years Of Turkey Hunting

When dawn breaks across the Show-Me State on April 19, hunters will mark the 51st spring turkey hunting season since the Missouri Department of Conservation was formed. The story of how Missouri went from nearly extirpating the robust bird synonymous with Thanksgiving Day to being one of the nation’s top turkey hunting destination is a study in the power of science-based conservation. At the midpoint of the 20th century, Missouri had fewer than 2,500 wild turkeys. Today, Show-Me State hunters shoot 20 times that number of turkeys every year. What brought about this turn-around?
