Spring fishing is just getting started. Anglers 17 years of age and older are required to have the new 2010 Michigan Fishing License by April 1st. Steelhead fishing remains good on most of the major river systems. Bluegill and crappie are starting to come alive and the sucker runs are currently underway. Southeast Lower Peninsula Lake Erie - Boat anglers were catching some nice walleye off Stony Point when using large crank baits. Lake Erie Metro Park has two docks in. Unseasonably warm temperatures again this week have raised wildfire danger in Wisconsin to high or very high statewide. Burning permits have been cancelled in some areas and restrictions are in place in other areas. Check the current fire danger page of the DNR Web site for burning permit status and restrictions. Debris burning is the main cause of wildfires in the state, and people are being asked to put off any burning at this time. Since March 3, 166 wildfires have burned 240 acres around the state. Ten structures have been lost in these fires and another 78 were threatened. Anyone who fails to obtain a permit or check the daily restrictions, risks burning illegally or unsafely, and may be subject to a citation. Furthermore, anyone who starts a wildfire, ... Students from several South Dakota schools will be hunting for high scores at the first annual National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) Tournament, to be held March 27 in Mitchell. The NASP tournament will be held at the Mitchell Middle School, 800 W 10th Street. Students from fourth through 12th grade who have participated in a school NASP program are eligible to compete. “The tournament is designed to be a fun way for participants to test the archery skills they have learned through their local Archery in the Schools Program,” said Curt Robertson, the NASP coordinator for the Game, Fish and Parks Department. “The tournament will bring out the competitive spirit of all our young archers.” Read more..Thursday, March 25th, 2010 Posted in Outdoor Programs | No Comments »

Join the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department’s “Let’s Go Fishing” Program and the Harris Center for Conservation Education for a free workshop offering you the chance to learn about the exciting sport of fly-fishing. “Fly-Fishing A-Z” will be held on Saturday, May 15, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 16, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Harris Center in Hancock, N.H. To sign up for this class, you must print out and return a registration form, which can be found on the Fish and Game website or the Harris Center website.
