Dealing with Nuisance Geese This Summer

The Canada goose is an adaptable bird and can live in a variety of locations, including open farmland and rural reservoirs to suburban neighborhood ponds, office complexes, parks and other developed areas. According to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division, as the goose population increases and they become more common in urban areas so does the increase in nuisance complaints. “Geese that have adapted to people, either because they are being fed or because they are so close to humans on a daily basis, can become an aggressive pest,” says WRD State Waterfowl Biologist Greg Balkcom. “Additionally, when you have a resident goose population that continues to grow unchecked - you exponentially increase the amounts of feces and feathers found in the area.” Read more..

Sport Fishing Advisory Group To Meet April 7

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Inland Sport Fishing Advisory Committee will meet on Wednesday, April 7 at Camp Withycombe, 10101 SE Clackamas Road in Clackamas. The meeting will begin at 6:30 pm and the agenda includes a report on fishing enhancement efforts in the Clackamas district, an overview of ODFW’s trout management plan and an opportunity for public comment. The Inland Sport Fishing Advisory Committee was created by ODFW to help provide input and ideas on implementation of the department’s 25-year Angling Enhancement Plan. The plan outlines ways to increase the number of anglers by providing diverse, stable and productive fishing opportunities statewide. Read more..

Opening Day for Landlocked Salmon

Enthusiastic anglers will be out in force on April 1 for the start of the open-water fishing season on landlocked salmon/lake trout-managed lakes -- the true start of spring for many New Hampshire anglers. The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department manages 15 lakes for landlocked salmon: Big Dan Hole Pond, First and Second Connecticut Lakes, Conway Lake, Lake Francis, Merrymeeting Lake, Newfound Lake, Ossipee Lake, Big and Little Squam Lakes, Sunapee Lake, Lake Winnipesaukee, Winnisquam Lake, and Nubanusit Lake. (Pleasant Lake in New London also is managed for landlocked salmon, but is classified as a trout pond, with a 2010 opening date of April 24.) Read more..
