Three established outdoor recreation experts are rolling out the green carpet for people who have little or no camping experience with a series of I Can Camp! workshops that will teach fire starting, outdoor cooking, and how to set up and break down a camp. Thirty-eight overnight workshops are being offered on Thursdays and Saturdays from June 17 to Aug. 21. Partners in the effort include the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Division of Parks and Trails, the Conservation Corps Minnesota, and REI. If you want to hunt moose in New Hampshire this fall, enter the lottery and try your luck on the adventure of a lifetime. Applications for the lottery cost $15 for residents and $25 for non-residents (nonrefundable) and are available online at http://www.huntnh.com or from any Fish and Game license agent. The deadline for entering the 2010 lottery is May 28, 2010. New Hampshire’s moose hunt runs from October 16 – 24, 2010. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment today said it supports recent action by the State of Minnesota to remove the gray wolf from the list of species protected by the Federal Endangered Species Act. The State of Minnesota filed a formal petition with U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar on March 15. “Our colleagues in Minnesota have done an excellent job of making the case for the regional recovery of the gray wolf,” said DNRE Director Rebecca Humphries. “The strength of this petition will hopefully compel the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to act swiftly so that we can implement our wolf management plans. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is accepting applications through April 12 during its Phase I random drawing for quota permits to hunt wild hogs on selected wildlife management areas. These quota permits are for hog-only hunts (both still and dog), where hunters can use modern firearms. Many of the new summer hunts are night-only hunts. In addition, permits for the dog hunts allow hunting with up to three dogs at a time, two hunters and one gun. On several WMAs, quota permits are required during many hunts. A quota is the maximum number of hunters allowed on a particular WMA. The quota helps prevent overcrowding and provides a better quality and safer hunting experience.
