The state’s most popular fishing season opens April 24, when hundreds of thousands of anglers will head to lakes and ponds stocked with millions of trout by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW). Although many lakes are open year round, the last Saturday in April marks the traditional start of the lowland-lakes fishing season, which extends through October. "This is our biggest fishing season opener and it traditionally draws more than 300,000 anglers of all ages," said WDFW Director Phil Anderson. Country Music Star Lands Lake Record Paddlefish

Country music star and avid outdoorsman Blake Shelton of Tishomingo landed a lake record paddlefish April 13 when he reeled in a 40 lb. fish from below the Lake Hudson dam. The fish measured 41 inches in length and was caught by way of snagging — the most common approach to catching “spoonbills.” Paddlefish do not strike lures or live bait but instead feed on tiny organisms called plankton. “I have been an outdoorsman my whole life and I love to hunt and fish,” Shelton, 33, said. “I have been fishing as long as I can remember, and catching a paddlefish is the most exciting kind of ... Wisconsin Outdoor Report as of April 16

Some areas of Wisconsin received some much needed rain in the last week, but rain missed some areas and much of the state received half an inch or less. Some areas that received rain have also dried out quickly with warm temperatures and high winds. Current fire danger vary widely across the state, from Low in areas of the north, to Very High in central Wisconsin. Burning permits have been cancelled in some central counties. The 2010 sturgeon spawning run has began this weekon the Wolf River and is almost already over. The sturgeon moved into the Shawano Dam spawning site Wednesday in large numbers and started spawning this morning at daybreak. Catch Big Pike At Yuba

Want to know what it feels like to catch a fish that's more than three feet long and weighs almost 20 pounds? You might find out if you grab your fishing gear—including a foot or two of metal leader—and head to Yuba Reservoir in the next few months. On April 14, Division of Wildlife Resources biologists were conducting gillnet surveys at this reservoir in central Utah.
