WDFW To Discuss Bonnie Lake Area Proposal

Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) officials will participate in a public meeting here April 27 to discuss a proposal for future protection of fish and wildlife habitat in the Bonnie Lake area. The meeting is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m., at District 3 Fire Station 39, 8811 West Cheney-Plaza Road, near Cheney. Bonnie Lake is southwest of Plaza Road in Spokane County, northwest of Malden. WDFW has identified the watershed as critical habitat for a wide variety of fish and wildlife, due to its diversity of riparian, wetland, shrub-steppe and pine forest habitats. Read more..

Apply For Alligator Hunting Permits On May 5

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) will begin accepting applications May 5 for a chance to obtain highly coveted permits to participate in the statewide alligator harvest. In Phase I, applications will be accepted for a random drawing from 10 a.m. (EDT) May 5 through 11:59 p.m. (EDT) May 18. Approximately 6,000 alligator harvest permits will be available. During the Phase I random drawing, each person can submit only one no-cost application, which provides the option of prioritizing up to five hunt area and period choices. All those seeking a harvest permit must be at least 18 years of age by Aug. 15. A permit allows the harvest of two alligators on a designated area. Read more..

Salazar Announces Major Boating Grants for Nine States

Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar today announced the award of more than $12 million in competitive grants to ten states ranging from Oregon to Florida for 13 boating infrastructure projects. The grants, which will help fund construction of docks, boat slips and other facilities to support recreational boating, are made available through the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Boating Infrastructure Grant (BIG) program. “The Boating Infrastructure Grant program is one of the many ways we support access and provide quality outdoor opportunities for the nation’s recreational anglers and boaters,” said Secretary Salazar. “These grants also support major construction projects, creating jobs and providing much-needed economic benefits.” Read more..

New Hampshire Announces 2010 Moose Permit Auction

The Wildlife Heritage Foundation of New Hampshire officially opens its second annual Moose Permit Auction today. As the official non-profit partner of the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, the Foundation is authorized to auction up to five permits to the five highest bidders. Proceeds from the auction help support critical fish and wildlife conservation and education programs and facilities of the N.H. Fish and Game Department. "Proceeds from the auction allow the Foundation to both sustain and create important Fish and Game conservation, educational and outreach programs that help preserve our hunting, fishing and wildlife-viewing traditions for the enjoyment of future generations," said Dr. Donald A.
