First Missouri Turkey Certificates Are Free On Request

Did a youngster you know shoot her or his first turkey during Missouri’s recent Youth Turkey Season? Why not memorialize the achievement with a lasting memento from the Missouri Department of Conservation? No matter how many turkeys a hunter might kill in subsequent years, regardless of how big they are, the memory of that first gobbler remains special. To help keep those memories vivid, the Conservation Department offers a personalized First Turkey Award. Any hunter age 15 or younger can get one of the certificates, which are suitable for framing. If you have a photo of the young hunter, this can be incorporated into the certificate. The original photo will be returned with the award. Read more..

Trout Season At Lemolo And Diamond Lake Opens Saturday

Trout season opens Saturday, April 24 with plenty of legal and larger-sized trout for anglers at Lemolo Reservoir and Diamond Lake. Recent cold weather and snow has iced over Diamond Lake so anglers should call 1-800-733-7593 x238 for updated ice conditions. As of Monday, the North Boat Ramp is plowed although the lake is still inaccessible to boaters. Diamond Lake is once again producing a great trout fishery. There should be over 200,000 fingerlings from last year’s stocking that will be 12-inch trout at ice off. There will also be several thousand lunkers available from the 2008 stocking. Read more..

Warm Weather Means Active Alligators And Crocodiles

The onset of warm weather in the spring is when Florida's native crocodilians start getting active, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is urging Floridians and visitors to be cautious when having fun in and around water. Florida is home to two native crocodilians - the American alligator, which is found in all 67 counties, and the American crocodile, which may be found in coastal areas of the Keys, Southeast and Southwest Florida. Major Fine For Falsifying Hunting License Info

A sixty-year old resident of Rogers, Arkansas was recently fined $18,060 (eighteen thousand sixty dollars) in fines and lost his hunting privileges for 10 years for falsifying his residency status in order to purchase resident hunting licenses in Wyoming. Charles E. Gerhardt was found guilty of two counts of false swearing to obtain resident deer (hunt area 116) and resident elk (hunt area 62) licenses in 2009. According to Jim Olson, Meeteetse game warden for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, a concerned citizen provided enough information to initiate an investigation, which later revealed that Gerhardt had been applying for and receiving resident licenses for many years.
