Public Hearing on Turkey and Moose Regulations

The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Board will hold a public hearing in Montpelier on Wednesday, May 19, to receive public comment on changes to turkey and moose hunting regulations. The proposed turkey hunting regulation will be discussed from 6:00-7:00 p.m., and the proposed moose hunting regulation will be discussed from 7:00-8:00 p.m. The hearing will be held at the Pavilion Auditorium, 109 State Street in Montpelier. Several of the changes that appear in this year’s proposed regulations for turkey and moose hunting were derived from Vermont’s newly-adopted Big Game Management Plan. Read more..

DEM Now Stocking Trout in Several Popular Fishing Locations

The Department of Environmental Management's Division of Fish and Wildlife is now stocking trout in several locations including some that were not stocked for opening day of the 2010 trout fishing season due to impacts from the March floods. Several popular fishing areas are currently being stocked with DEM's hatchery raised trout. Areas being stocked today include Wyoming Pond and the Wood River in Arcadia Management Area from Rt. 165 downstream, as well as several fishing access areas along the Wood River including Barberville, KG Ranch Road, and Dow Athletic Field in Hope Valley. Silver Spring Lake in North Kingstown, Barber Pond in South Kingstown, and Frosty Hollow Children's Pond in Exeter are also being stocked today. Read more..

Hunting Guide and Outfitter Test Set for May 8

Individuals interested in taking the guide and outfitter written exam are reminded to preregister by calling the North Dakota Game and Fish Department at 328-6604. The test is scheduled for Saturday, May 8 at 1 p.m. at the department’s main office in Bismarck. The test is given periodically to anyone interested in becoming a hunting guide or outfitter in the state. In addition to passing a written exam, qualifications for becoming a guide include a background check for criminal and game and fish violations, certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and standard first aid, and employment by or contract with a licensed hunting outfitter. Nee Gronde Reservoir Void of Fish Following Winter Kill

The Colorado Division of Wildlife has completed their investigation of a total fish kill at Nee Gronde Reservoir south of Eads. "All information points to a winterkill situation caused by an extremely cold winter paired with very low lake levels. There were several weeks of thick ice cover on the lake last winter. Such ice cover is rare in the southeast quadrant of the state," said Doug Krieger, a senior aquatic biologist with the DOW. "Capping the nutrient-rich lake under a cover of ice exhausted the oxygen supply. It seems to be unprecedented. Our biologists have never seen this kind of loss at Nee Gronde before," he said.
