The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR), The Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) and the Marine Trades Association of Maryland will hold a forum July 8 in Annapolis to offer an opportunity to learn more about the new General Discharge Permit for Boat and Vessel Maintenance. The Arizona Game and Fish Department has $30,000 in grant funding to assist local nonprofit hunting organizations to implement hands-on events designed for first time hunters in an effort to recruit new hunters, and teach them about wildlife conservation in Arizona. The grant program is a pass-through grant program funded by the National Shooting Sports Foundation’s (NSSF) Hunting Heritage Partnership, which supports state agencies’ efforts to expand hunter recruitment and retention. Applications are being accepted now, and funding will be awarded through a competitive application process. Applications and any supporting materials may be submitted by U.S. mail, fax, or e-mail, and must be received by Monday, Aug. 9 by 5 p.m. (MST). Postmarks do not count. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division is considering adding to the list of reservoirs where it is legal to possess and use live blueback herring for bait to include Bartlett’s Ferry, Blue Ridge, Goat Rock, Oliver and West Point Lakes. Although not native to these lakes, blueback herring now have established populations in these lakes and there is no longer justification for prohibiting anglers from using these fish as bait on these waters. The Department also proposes a change to the language used in Chapter 391-4-3.13 that delineates a portion of Jones Creek as an artificial lure stream. The current language references the Blue Ridge Wildlife Management Area, which no longer exists and this administrative change would properly delineate the boundaries of the artificial lure portion of Jones ... State conservation wardens and specialized deputy wardens known as “Water Guards” will be out in full force over the Fourth of July holiday weekend to educate boaters and anglers about a new invasive species law that makes it illegal to leave a boat launch and drive on public roads with aquatic plants and animals attached to boats, trailers, or equipment. The new law is aimed at reducing the spread of zebra mussels, Eurasian water milfoil and other aquatic invasive species. Also, state park and forest officials are reminding visitors that most types of fireworks are illegal in Wisconsin state parks and forests.
