Federal Incentive For Missouri Farmers And Migratory Birds

Missouri landowners have until Aug. 1 to join a federal initiative to help migratory birds whose winter habitat has been damaged by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) recently unveiled the Migratory Bird Habitat Initiative (MBHI). The initiative aims to maximize migratory bird habitat and food resources on up to 150,000 acres of private land. The acreage will provide critical wintering habitat for a significant number of waterfowl, wading birds, sparrows and other birds. Participating landowners receive payments through the Wetlands Reserve, Wildlife Habitat Incentives and Environmental Quality Incentives programs. The three programs are part of the federal farm bill. The MBHI is expected to make $1.9 million available to Missouri landowners for wetland-friendly practices. Read more..

Goose Task Force Meeting July 13 in Salem

The Goose Task Force will meet Tuesday, July 13 from 9 a.m. to noon in the Commission Room at ODFW Headquarters, 3406 Cherry Ave NE, Salem. Members of the public are welcome to attend and listen to the meeting. An opportunity for public comment is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. People that cannot attend in person may listen by phone; call 866-249-5325 and enter participant code 799514. The Goose Task Force was created by Senate Bill 622 (passed by the 2009 Oregon State Legislature) to study ways to address agricultural crop losses created by current goose populations in different parts of the state. 2010 N.H. Moose Hunt Permit Auction Underway

Prospective moose hunters have a shot at the adventure of a lifetime through the New Hampshire moose hunt permit auction, which is currently accepting bids. The Wildlife Heritage Foundation of New Hampshire is auctioning five moose hunting permits for the 2010 moose hunt as part of a program to support the conservation of wildlife and natural places throughout the state. The permits will allow the holder to harvest one moose of either sex in a wildlife management unit of the holder's choice. All auction proceeds benefit the Wildlife Heritage Foundation of New Hampshire.
