Sauvie Island Wildlife Management Plan

The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission today delayed final action on the Sauvie Island Wildlife Area Management Plan. Commissioners asked agency staff to get additional public comment from user groups and bring back the plan for potential approval at a later date. The Commission also amended rules for the reintroduction of bulltrout to the Clackamas River and approved a new permitting system for bass tournaments. The Commissioners heard concerns from some user groups that they didn’t hear about possible changes to the Sauvie Island Wildlife Management plan in a timely fashion. The revised Sauvie Island Wildlife Management plan will help staff effectively respond to the wide range of issues associated with the 11,564-acre site, which has seen a substantial increase in user groups since the original plan was last updated in ... Executive Director Arway to Make Case for Severance Tax

Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) Executive Director John Arway will be the featured speaker at a special evening program being hosted by the Pa Steelhead Association to discuss Marcellus Shale and other issues affecting the angling and boating community. The event will take place at 7 p.m. on September 8 at the American Legion Club at 4109 West 12th Street in Erie. Joining Mr. Arway at the meeting will be PFBC Commissioner Edward Mascharka III, who represents the Commission’s 1st District, which includes Butler, Clarion, Crawford, Erie, Forest, Lawrence, Mercer, Venango, and Warren counties. FWC Proposes Changes To Blue Crab Rules

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) proposed a series of draft rule amendments on Thursday to modify blue crab regulations. These proposals include some recommendations by the FWC’s Blue Crab Advisory Board, which helps the Commission manage Florida’s blue crab fishery, as well as some technical blue crab amendments. One proposed rule amendment by the board would change the six annual regional, 10-day blue crab trap closures to occur every other year. The January closure to the harvest of blue crabs with traps in the St. Johns River system and the August closures in Nassau through Palm Beach counties would occur in even-numbered calendar years only. Steelhead Fishing Begins On Hanford Reach

The first of several hatchery steelhead fisheries in the Columbia River Basin gets under way with the opening of the Hanford Reach section of the Columbia River, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) announced today. Hatchery steelhead fisheries also are scheduled to open Sept. 8 on the upper Columbia, Wenatchee, Entiat and Methow rivers. In addition, the Okanogan River will open to hatchery steelhead retention beginning Oct. 1, and the Similkameen River will open for hatchery steelhead fishing Nov. 1. Anglers fishing the Hanford Reach section of the Columbia River - from the Highway 395 Bridge at Pasco to Priest Rapids Dam - will have a daily limit of two adipose fin-clipped hatchery steelhead.
