LDWF Announces Deer Hunting Closure in Deer Area 5 Due to Flooding

Deer hunting in Deer Area 5 in the Atchafalaya Basin is closed due to flooding, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) announced. The Atchafalaya River has reached 18 feet mean sea level (msl), triggering the automatic closure. Attakapas Wildlife Management Area (WMA) and DMAP lands in Deer Area 5 are included in this closure.

Deer hunting in those portions of Iberville and St. Martin parishes south of I-10, west of the East Atchafalaya Basin Protection Levee, east of the West Atchafalaya Basin Levee and north of Alligator Bayou and Bayou Sorrel are closed. The season will reopen in this portion of Deer Area 5 if and when the river stage recedes to 17 feet msl at Butte LaRose.
