Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited a subject for possession of a spotted fawn on Sept. 9 in Franklin Parish.
Agents cited Somchanh Chanthapanya, 61, of Winnsboro, for possession of a spotted fawn.
Agents received information from a Franklin Parish Sheriff’s Office Deputy who was performing a security check on the Garden Hen restaurant in Winnsboro. The deputy discovered an open door and proceeded inside to clear the building when he found a dead spotted fawn in the cooler.
Agents responded to the information from the deputy and located Chanthapanya, who is the owner of the restaurant, at his residence butchering the fawn.
Chanthapanya said he found the fawn on the side of Hwy. 17 as roadkill and took it to his cooler at his restaurant. When he received information that a deputy may have found the fawn in the cooler, he took it to his house.
Possession of a spotted fawn carries a $500 to $750 fine and up 15 to 30 days in jail.
