Maryland Spring Turkey Season Includes Expansion of Sunday Hunting

Spring turkey hunting season starts statewide April 18, and a growing number of Maryland counties now allow hunting on Sundays.

Governor Larry Hogan signed legislation from the 2017 General Assembly permitting turkey hunting on private land in Kent County on all remaining Sundays during the 2017 spring hunting season: April 23 and 30, May 7, 14 and 21.

“We are pleased to offer additional Sunday hunting opportunities for spring turkey hunters,” Wildlife and Heritage Service Director Paul Peditto said. “This will make it easier for hunters to find time to enjoy what the spring woods have to offer.”

Kent joins the list of other Maryland counties (Calvert, Caroline, Carroll, Charles and St. Mary’s) that permit Sunday hunting on private lands during the spring turkey season. Sunday turkey hunting is also permitted on private and designated public lands in Allegany, Garrett and Washington counties, and on all lands in Dorchester County.

Season dates, regulations and check-in procedures are located online and in the 2016-2017 Maryland Guide to Hunting & Trapping.
