The Missouri Department of Conservation’s Wild Turkey Management Program is asking fall firearms and archery turkey hunters to send in feathers from turkeys they harvest this fall as part of a new MDC research project. The information gathered from this project will help improve wild turkey management in Missouri.
For this effort to be successful, we need more folks — like you — to participate in this new research project. Participation is easy and does not cost you anything except a bit of time.
All turkeys harvested during both the Fall Firearms (Oct.1 – 31) and Fall Archery (Sept. 15 -Nov. 13 and Nov. 25 – Jan. 15) Seasons are eligible for submission.
Once you harvest a turkey and Telecheck your bird, please retain the carcass — or remove a wing from the turkey and several feathers from the lower portion of the breast — and visit mdc.mo.gov/turkeyfeathers.
At that webpage, you will find a submission form where you can provide your name, mailing address, and Telecheck ID number. When we receive your contact information, we will mail you the materials needed to submit your turkey feathers, including a postage-paid envelope and instructions about which feathers to submit.
Again, the success of this effort is dependent on voluntary participation by turkey hunters like yourself. If you have any questions about this project, you can contact MDC’s Wild Turkey Management Program at firstname.lastname@example.org or call us at 573-815-7901 ext. 2940.
Thank you in advance for helping us manage Missouri’s wild turkey resource.
