Operation Orphans, Inc. November 15 Hunt Results

Operation Orphans, Inc. hosted 53 boys during the second hunt of the “Take a Child Hunting” program Friday and Saturday, November 14 and 15. The young hunters harvested 80 animals which included 50 whitetail does, 3 spikes, 19 management bucks, 1 aoudad, 3 axis and 4 feral hogs.

Children and foster homes which brought boys were Texas Baptist Home, Waxahachie; Castro-Araujo Home, Elmendorf; Ramirez Home, Converse; Boys & Girls Country, Hockley; Gulf Coast Trades Center, New Waverly; Methodist Children’s Home, Waco; West Texas Boys Ranch, San Angelo; and Christ’s Haven, Keller.

Area ranches which welcomed the young and eager hunters were Bird Ranch, Mason county; Bloys Ranch, Kerr; BSAK Ranch, McCulloch; Circle M, Gillespie; Craft Alaca, Blanco; Crenwelge Ranch, Gillespie; Cripple Creek Ranch, Bandera; Crooked E Ranch, Blanco; Fallen Oaks Ranch, Mason; Karl Ransleben, Gillespie; J & L Crouch Ranch, Mason; Patrick Loftin, Mason; Schweining Ranch, Sutton; Smith Ranch, Mason; Wilson Ranch, Gillespie; and Woelfel Stones Throw Ranch, Mason.

Operation Orphans will host boys again December 6 and January 10. During the October hunt, 30 girls from 6 child care facilities harvested 19 animals. Since 1960 17,938 children have participated in the hunting program.

Pack 281 of the Mason Boy Scouts and others prepared the Saturday sack lunches. Individuals making lunches were: Garrett Lindsay, Mendy Lindsay, Kati Vinson, Wesley Vinson, Travis Vinson, Mark Weber, Case Weber, Julianna Kuhlmann, Richard Montellano, Jacie Smedley, Mason Hatfield, Jamie Hatfield, Drake Sizemore, Joey Avalos, Mariah Avalos, Liana Avalos, Bella Avalos, Samantha Avalos, Nora Gonzales, Sherry Lehmberg, Brennan VanCleave, and Luke Airheart. Mason Boy Scouts Samuel Martinez III, Emanuel Martinez, and Michael Jefferson prepared the early Saturday morning breakfast. Mason Bottling Company provided soft drinks for the lunches and Durham Pecan Company provided nuts and dried fruit.
