What to put more salmon on your dinner plate? Then plan on attending a free salmon fishing seminar at 7 pm on Friday, Aug. 24 at the North Bend Middle School, 1500 16th Street.
Taught by Rick Howard, the area’s premier salmon fishing guide, the seminar focuses on strategies and techniques to be consistently successful in catching fall chinook from the Coos, Coquille and Umpqua estuaries.
“I’ve seen Rick’s students dramatically change their ability to catch chinook. He’s revolutionized salmon fishing in local rivers,” said Tom Rumreich, ODFW STEP biologist in Charleston. “This is an important seminar to attend for both the novice and veteran angler, and it’s free.”
Rumreich said the seminar averages over 200 attendees and that Howard has instructed thousands of anglers and many local guides. No registration is necessary.
The seminar is sponsored by ODFW and the Coos Basin Salmon Derby. The derby is held this year on Sept. 8-9 in Coos Bay.
