Wolf Lake State Fish Hatchery Fishing Programs
The regularly scheduled kids catch-and-release fishing programs, which occur on Fridays and Saturdays at Wolf Lake State Fish Hatchery, are canceled for the upcoming weekend, July 20-21. The fishing programs will be replaced with casting and knot-tying clinics.
“Due to abnormally high summer temperatures, fish in the Show Pond are showing signs of extreme stress,” said Wolf Lake State Fish Hatchery Interpreter Shana Ramsey. “We feel it would be best to reduce any further stress by canceling the fishing programs at least for this weekend.”
The casting and knot-tying clinics will be held July 20, 5-7 p.m. and July 21, 8-10 a.m. There is no preregistration required for these clinics.
The hatchery will remain open for other regularly scheduled programs and tours.
Staff at the hatchery will monitor the situation and, if conditions become favorable, will resume regularly scheduled fishing programs the following weekend, July 27-28.
Wolf Lake State Fish Hatchery is located at 34270 County Road 652 in Mattawan. Information about the hatchery can be found online at http://www.michigan.gov/wolflakevc.
