Youth Fishing Rodeos Reach Thousands of Anglers

Despite record rainfall throughout much of the state, more than 3,500 aspiring anglers participated in Youth Fishing Rodeos this spring and summer, reports the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

These free events were held throughout the Old Line State, with more than 30 different nonprofits organizations and partners from 11 counties participating this year.

“Through the program, we educate and engage thousands of Maryland children and students on biology, conservation and nature, and spur a lifelong interest in fishing,” Youth Fishing Rodeo Program Coordinator Mike Anderson said. “Despite severe weather and storms this past year, the rodeos providing kids with a unique outdoor experience and opportunity. We already gearing up for a successful 2019!”

Applications are now being taken for organizations interested in hosting a Youth Fishing Rodeo. Information on how to host, organize and sponsor an event can be found on the program’s webpage, or by emailing Mike Anderson.
