2020 Historical Festival Cancelled at Fort Sisseton Historic State Park

FORT SISSETON HISTORIC STATE PARK, S.D. – Since the coronavirus pandemic first began impacting our daily lives, the staff at Fort Sisseton Historic State Park and the Fort Sisseton Commission have been monitoring the situation closely.

The goal over the past year of planning has been, and continues to be, making the annual Historical Festival as safe and successful as possible. With that in mind, the 2020 Historical Festival has been cancelled for the safety of our community and focus has shifted to the 2021 Historical Festival.

“We had initially hoped to simply postpone this year’s event until a later date,” said Fort Sisseton park manager, Ali Tonsfeldt. “However, it takes months, to plan, book, and properly host the annual Historical Festival. Since there’s currently no indication of when it will be safe to host a large public event, we are not able to confidently select an alternative date for 2020 that does not carry the same risk of cancellation and lasting financial impact to our organizations.”

We appreciate the support and understanding of our community during these uncertain times. Please stay safe, and we look forward to seeing you at the 2021 Historical Festival or one of our 2020 fall events.
