Floridians reminded of extended Gulf red snapper season

The recreational red snapper season in Gulf state waters will remain open for seven additional days this November, including Nov. 5 and 6; Nov. 11 and 12, which is Veteran’s Day holiday; and Nov. 25, 26 and 27, which is Thanksgiving weekend. The Nov. 26 date is also a saltwater license-free fishing day.

Gov. Rick Scott requested the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) expand red snapper season as a measure to offset the economic effects of Hurricane Hermine, which hit the Gulf Coast of Florida in early September. Recreational fishing in Gulf waters adds $7.6 billion annually to Florida’s economy.
