Outdoor University August 4 at Sertoma Park

SIOUX FALLS, SD — Outdoor University, a free event, is the public’s best opportunity to experience the educational fun The Outdoor Campus provides each day. The event runs 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. CDT on Saturday, Aug. 4, at Sertoma Park.

Attendees will be able to try outdoor activities such as kayaking, canoeing, archery, fishing, fly fishing, archery disks and outdoor cooking. In addition, The Outdoor Campus is introducing some new activities and demonstrations to this year’s event.

A Teddy Roosevelt impersonator will attend the festival for the first time. He will set up camp on the festival grounds and meet with people all day about conservation and hunting.

Science Steve from South Dakota Public Broadcasting (SDPB) will cook up some crazy science experiments and put on an unforgettable science show.

Two outdoor shows will attend the event this year – Vern Boer’s Wild Dakota and The Bearded Redneck, Robert Rohrer.

South Dakota State Parks offer activities for children age 7 and younger. Visitors who follow the trail of booths and activities will find free t-shirts to color and take home.

Touch tanks filled with frogs, toads, fish and snakes are always a hit, and SD Game, Fish and Parks (GFP) officials will be on hand to answer questions about habitat, pollinators, hunting, law enforcement and wildlife.

Food and drink vendors will be available throughout the day.

The Outdoor Campus is a part of SD GFP and annually teaches tens of thousands of people to appreciate the outdoors through educational programming.
