Record Fish Caught at Lake Jeff Davis and Lake Mary Crawford

JACKSON – Two state lake record fish have been caught! On March 21, 2017, a new Lake Jeff Davis record largemouth bass was caught by Randy Rushing of Osyka, MS. The bass weighed 12.6 pounds and topped the previous record of 11.6 pounds caught earlier this month. At Lake Mary Crawford, Tom Jacobs of Monticello caught a lake record crappie weighing 2.4 pounds on March 26th. Lake Jeff Davis is a 100-acre state fishing lake located in Jefferson Davis County and Lake Mary Crawford is a 128-acre state fishing lake located in Lawrence County.

“Each state lake maintains a list of record fish, and we encourage anglers to let us know if they believe their catch might be a new record,” said Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) State Lake Coordinator Jerry Brown. Fish that qualify for a state lake record include largemouth bass, bluegill, redear sunfish, crappie, and catfish. Potential record fish must be verified by Fisheries Bureau staff.

Anglers who catch a state lake record fish will receive a certificate from MDWFP, and a copy will be displayed at the lake’s office. The record will also be acknowledged on MDWFP’s website.
