Roxborough State Park’s naturalist guided activities in July

ROXBOROUGH, Colo. – Come join the fun, learn about nature and watch Roxborough State Park change with the seasons. Park naturalists will lead you on a journey of discovery through our guided hikes and activities.

Programs, sponsored by Colorado Parks and Wildlife, are free; however, please remember that all vehicles entering the park must purchase a $10 daily pass or display a valid annual pass. Please note that most programs require reservations. For information and to register for programs call the park at 303-973-3959.

Please sign up for all programs (except Moonlight Hikes) through Eventbrite. A link to Eventbrite can also be found on our website and on our events Facebook page. We will no longer be taking phone reservations, but please do call if you need assistance.

July 2 – Rox Ride | 10 a.m.

July 3 – Rox-Revealed – 1.7 Billion Years of Geology | 9 a.m. – Auditorium
Have you ever wondered how old the rocks are in Roxborough? Join Naturalist John Healey and learn about the different formations found in Roxborough. Learn about how they formed, when they formed, and why they make Roxborough such a unique place. Sign Up Via Eventbrite Required. Meet at the Visitor Center to attend the event.

July 4 – Historic Persse Place Open House | 12-3 p.m.
In celebration of Colorado History & Archeology month, visit this historic house. Step off the Fountain Valley Trail and into the early 1900s. Naturalists will give you a tour and share the history of this nationally registered home.

July 10 – Rox Revealed – Owls | 9 a.m. – Auditorium
Have you ever heard an owl at night and wondered about these magnificent birds? Join Naturalist Ann Sarg and learn about the different owls that can be found in Roxborough. Learn about how they hunt for prey and how they play an important role in the ecosystem. Reservations via Eventbrite are required. Meet at the Visitor Center to attend the event.

July 17 – Photographing Roxborough’s Landscapes and Flowers | 9 a.m. – Noon
Join Naturalist Bob Rabito, and award winning professional photographer for 42 years. Hike the Fountain Valley Trail and photograph the beautiful landscape and wildlife of the park. This is a program for everyone. Digital SLR, point and shoot, and cell phone cameras are welcome. Please dress for the weather. Bring appropriate gear for the day. This is a popular time of the year because of the beautiful flowers blooming and this program will be limited. Sign up early before it fills up. Sign up via Eventbrite required. Meet at the Visitor Center to attend the event.

July 17 – Rox Ride | 10 a.m.

July 17 – Summer Concert – Sirens III – Folk Music | 6 p.m.
Bring your own chair and join us on the patio for a summer of music “on the Rox.” There is no fee, but we pass the hat. Your generous donations go directly to the pavilion fund. Donations are appreciated.

July 18 – Guided Bird Walks | 7:30 a.m.
Grab your bird book and binoculars and join Naturalist Jill Holden for bird watching adventures. These hikes are for all ability levels. Dress for the changing weather conditions. Bring snacks and water. Sign up Via Eventbrite required. Meet at the Visitor Center to attend the event.

July 22 – Moonlight Hike | 7 p.m.
Join Naturalists for an evening hike. Afterward enjoy refreshments and other celestial delights. Moonlight Hikes require a prepaid reservation of $8 per hiker. Contact the park (303-973-3959) to check on reservation availability. To reserve, send a check by mail payable to the Friends of Roxborough State Park to 4751 E. Roxborough Drive, Roxborough, CO 80125. Cash payments are taken at the Visitor Center.

Reservations will be taken up to the start of the hike if spots are available (limited to 30 participants). We will send a non-refundable ticket for confirmed hikes up to one week prior to the hike, and/or hold the ticket at the check-in on the patio that evening. Space is limited and hikes fill up fast! Reserve your spot today.

A valid Colorado State Park Pass is required on all vehicles entering the park for these events. Daily passes ($10) are available when you enter the park at the entrance gate or kiosk. As always we ask you leave your pets at home.

July 24 – Meditative Walk in Nature | 8:30-10 a.m.
Join Naturalist Kathy Ford on a 90 minute meditative hike in the park to discover what summertime natural wonders have to teach us about silence. Reservations via Eventbrite are required. Meet at the Visitor Center to attend this event.

July 24 – Roxborough Rambles – Butterflies of Willow Creek Hike | 9 a.m.
Have you wondered about the different butterflies found in the park? Join Naturalist Nancy Crews and learn about the different species that can be found in Roxborough. Learn how they are important to the ecosystem and how they are unique insects. Reservations via Eventbrite are required. Meet at the Visitor Center to attend this event.

Do you want to learn more about the rock formations found in Roxborugh? Join Naturalist Debra Patskowski on a hike to learn about the different rock formations found in the park, when they were formed, and how they are unique. Reservations via Eventbrite are required. Meet at the Visitor Center to attend this event.

July 31 – Rox Ride | 10 a.m.
