Some voluntary fishing closures lifted on Yampa and Elk rivers

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. – More areas along the Yampa River are opening back up to fishing today after voluntary closures were implemented earlier this summer.

CPW will remove the fishing closures on the Elk River at the Christina State Wildlife Area and the Yampa River from Chuck Lewis State Wildlife Area downstream through Yampa River State Park and the Yampa River State Wildlife Area.

The mandatory fishing closure for the 0.6-mile section of the Yampa River downstream of Stagecoach Reservoir dam remains in place due to extreme low flow conditions.

A voluntary, full-day fishing closure will remain in place through October 20 at the confluence of Fish Creek and the Yampa River to protect spawning fish as a result of sub-optimal flow conditions. The voluntary, full-day fishing closure will run roughly 100 feet upstream and 200 feet downstream on the Yampa River, as well as up Fish Creek to US40. Signage will be in place to alert river users of the continued voluntary fishing closure in this area.

Visit CPW’s statewide conditions page for more information on fishing closures and fishing conditions across Colorado.
