Do you have a passion for fish and want to contribute to raising some of the fish that fill Utah’s waters? The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources is seeking a Wildlife Specialist (Hatchery Specialist) to help propagate fish species and maintain the hatchery facility and equipment at the Whiterocks State Fish Hatchery in Fountain Green, Utah. Housing will be provided.
As the Wildlife Specialist (Hatchery Specialist), you will:
Propagate and feed fish, using proper techniques.
Clean troughs, raceways, quiescent zones and other water management structures.
Assist in spawning, egg picking, receiving and egg disinfection operations.
Learn and assist with necropsies.
Gather biological data and enter data into databases and other programs.
Assist in loading fish for distribution and distributing fish to state waters.
Inspect and maintain facilities, equipment, lawns, shrubbery, and hatchery grounds.
Assist in the diagnosis and repair of electrical, plumbing and mechanical problems.
Assist with hatchery tours and helping with non-hatchery Division projects.
Attend training in various areas of the Division and hatchery operations.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for this position will have:
A bachelor’s degree in aquaculture.
Knowledge of or experience with coldwater fish culture.
Basic maintenance and construction trade skills such as electrical, plumbing, heating and air, welding or carpentry.
The ability and willingness to learn new skills and follow directions accurately.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
A valid Utah driver’s license.
