Youth Bass Fishing Championship headed for Lake Hartwell

Youth anglers from around South Carolina will descend upon Green Pond Boat Landing for the 11th Annual South Carolina Department of Natural Resources Youth Bass Fishing Championship. The tournament will be held March 4 on Lake Hartwell, with weigh-in events beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Spectators are welcome to cheer on the teams as they cross the big stage competing for the state championship title. Students from middle and high schools across the state will be represented at this elite tournament. The SCDNR Youth Bass Fishing Championship is excited to partner with Green Pond and Visit Anderson to host the tournament as it continues its rotation around the state.

“Anderson County is so excited to be able to host the SCDNR Youth Bass Fishing Championship,” said Neil Paul, executive director of Visit Anderson. “Our county has a tremendous relationship with SCDNR, and the great folks that represent the SCDNR shield have all served in the growth and development of Green Pond Landing into a nationally recognized facility. For Anderson County to be able to share this event with SCDNR to continue providing fishing opportunities for our young people is something we take great pride in for our lake, our facility and our community.”

Trophies, medals, plaques and fishing gear from Abu Garcia, Plano and Berkley will be awarded to the winners from support by the Harry Hampton Wildlife Foundation. Scholarships sponsored by Visit Anderson and Pure Fishing brands for $1,000 will be awarded to the first place high school two-person team. The scholarship check is to be used at a college or technical school of their choice. All participants will receive a commemorative T-shirt and goodies from Berkley and Gulp baits. Interested in forming a bass fishing club at your school? You’ll need an adult at your school to help lead the club, provide advice and help arrange at least two club tournaments, fundraisers, speakers and other learning sessions pertaining to fishing for club meetings. Department of Natural Resources, The Bass Federation of South Carolina and B.A.S.S with help and support from parents, teachers, school districts, local bait and tackle shops, community partners and Pure Fishing.
